Indoor air quality

My house was built in the late 50's the air quality inside my house is pretty good. The only cause for concerns that we have is the walls probably have bad lead paint under them from when it was built as the new paint cracks and falls off sometimes in the weirdest places. Our basement floods in heavy downpours from an outside drain that backs up. We have a gas furnace and gas water heater so there's a chance always of possible carbon monoxide poisoning but we have a detector. In one of the bathrooms one of the fans to take out moisture doesn't work so well and so some mold is growing on the ceiling. Some measures we could take are to clean or replace the fan and clean the mold. In the whole house we could strip all of the previous paint down and then repaint.

Carbon Footprint

1. Current total 71, 240
     Reduced emissions 44,282
    U.S average 108,682

2. The calculator was pretty interesting. It really showed how my home lacks in certain ways because it's old and isn't up to as energy efficient as it could be. In some ways it was accurate like in the waste and the household part. The transportation part was hard because we have 4 cars and I can't keep track of how much everyone in my house drives.

3. I think food waste might make it higher and shopping. Lower would probably be that I don't leave lights on all the time and I turn all of my stuff completely off if i'm not using it.

4. I think we could do that in America but a lot of corporations like making big money than they care about saving the planet. I think I could try and do that, it would mean cutting out fast food, excess packaging and reusing more things and not wasting food I make. I would start to recycle more.

5. I think it shows me more that I take a lot of things for granted and I never thought about how much of stuff I waste or consume in a way that is not eco friendly. I always hear those words about being more green but I never really knew what the hype and urge was for it because the actual facts aren't talked about and known. I never thought about how washing clothes in just cold water could save and help the environment.

6. Yes I will try and not wash my clothes in warm water and I will be more conscious about gas in my car and traveling.

Stuff footprint

1. My desire for stuff was that I like to have luxury and that I have a desire for things I don't necessarily need but look cool. I have a desire for a newer car even though the car I have now gets me where I need to go and works just fine.
2. My room
3. 1 person
4. It was pretty easy to count most of the items in my room expect when it came to clothes and books. I have a lot of clothes stuffed in drawers that overflow that it's hard to tell how many I actually have. On my book shelf I have lots of books and various junk so all of that was hard to count but I'm pretty organized in everything else.
5. In my room I don't really fill up the garbage every week usually what goes in their is empty water bottles and and drink cans from the week. Sometimes a snack wrapper.
6.  It wasn't super surprising I already know that I need to not waste the empty water bottles in the regular trash.
7. 65%
8. Because we live in a society that is all about the fastness. We eat out a lot at fast food and buy a lot of unnecessary stuff.
9. Yes, because we have ads coming at us where ever we look on tv, on the internet, on the radio. It makes me want to have the best stuff and want to look fancy when stuff even though I know that the amount of money isn't worth it and I don't need it because what I have now is perfectly fine.
10. Yes, I think every time I want something new I'm going to think about how it's a luxury not a necessity and what I have now is still good and so I don't need to waste my time getting something new.

Home audit

1. In my house we have some really old appliances and they wasted a lot more energy than I expected. Some of the behaviors in the quiz that I noticed is in my house we do a pretty good job. In the winter we keep the curtains in the living open during the day and close them at night. We don't put the heat up super high and instead bundle with blankets.

2. I found Phantom loads being the Xbox that is plugged in and my mac book charger. I don't use either of them everyday or that often but I always leave them plugged in and I noticed that they get really hot and waste a lot of extra energy.

3. To reduce extra power we could save by unplugging unnecessary items that don't need to be plugged in all day like the coffee pot and my Xbox.

4. By not using so much energy that helps reduce the resources. So I would help not contribute to the drilling and coal power.

5. If I had money I would try the Solar panels because I feel those really contribute to saving energy. They use the sun to get the power so no one has to drill or use any other resources. I live in a place that is sunny a lot and would get plenty of sun.
